Cenospheres in Paints

Cenospheres in Paints

Cenospheres (predominantly, glass ones) are added to formulations for marking of roads and airfields. The use of a thermoplastic composition for road markings can increase frost resistance, crack resistance, and salt resistance of coatings, as well as add reflective properties.

Using thermoplastic road marking composition can improve cold resistance, salt resistance, and crack resistance due to the fact that the formula contains polyester resin, which is based on dimethyl or on polyethylene terephthalate, ethylene glycol and phthalic anhydride, or polyester resin, which is based on adipic resin, ethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, transformer oil, quartz sand, and aluminosilicate hollow microspheres with particle size of 80-100 microns.

Another area of application of the microspheres in the production of coatings is the creation of “warm” colors with low thermal conductivity as provided by the respective properties of cenospheres.
